The Selection Process
Applications for 12-month Pupillage commencing October 2009 can be made from March 2008 until the closing date, which is 01 May 2008. We are looking for candidates of the highest calibre. Academic achievements form a significant part of our considerations but are not the only criteria. We have designed our selection process, especially our application form, to enable us to test and take into account a wide range of skills and attributes. We consider each applicant individually and give appropriate weight to each of his or her qualities.
If you are invited to interview, it is up to you to perform to the best of your ability and persuade us that you are a person to whom we should make an offer of Pupillage.
There are three stages in our selection process:
- We consider all the completed applications forms received. Two members of chambers consider each form independently. If the two members considering a form disagree a third member of chambers will review the application. On the basis of the assessment made of your application forms we select about fifty candidates for first round interview.
- A panel of at least two and not more than four members of Chambers conducts the first round interview. The interviews usually last about 25 minutes. Before the interview you will be sent a written question and asked to bring a written response to the interview with you. We then select up to twenty four candidates for second round interview.
- The second round interview involves you spending half a day in Chambers. Most of that time will be spent undertaking research and producing some written work. You will also spend 30 minutes with an interview panel of between five and seven members of Chambers. During the time you are with us we will give you an opportunity to look around Chambers and to ask questions in a more relaxed atmosphere.
The timetable is as follows:
- Closing date for Applications will be 11.59pm on Thursday 01 May 2008.
- First round interviews will probably take place between 9-22 June 2008.
- Second round interviews will probably take place over the weekend of 12th/13th July 2008.
- Offers in line with the Summer OLPAS season: from 11.59pm on 31st July 2008.
